Consume less sugar: Too much sugar can cause you to gain excess weight. This can again raise your blood pressure and cause diseases like diabetes and various heart diseases. If you are in love with sweet food and you just cannot give up sugar, then you can try having yogurt and sweet fruits instead of going for cakes and puddings.

Cut down on salt intake: If you have too much salt in your diet, then your blood pressure is going to increase. This is going to increase your chances of suffering from heart diseases. It is always recommended that you have a maximum of 6 grams of salt in your diet on a daily basis. Do not keep a salt pot on the table and reduce the amount of salt you put in your food while cooking. Always keep an eye on the food label to check how much salt the food that you are eating actually contains. Also, try to avoid eating processed food as they are high in salt.

Go for long walks: Another very good way to keep your heart healthy at all times is to go for long walks. This will give your entire body very good exercise. You will feel light and healthy. Walking for a prolonged duration of time will also help in the digestion process. It will give you good exercise and will also initiate proper blood circulation in the body.

Eat lots of green vegetables: Green vegetables are really good for our body. They keep our weight under control and also maintain proper blood pressure and blood sugar level. Fresh vegetables are also rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. They will help you to fight against various diseases. You can also try to eat at least one fresh fruit a day. This is definitely going to keep you healthy and make you feel fresh.

Quit smoking: Smoking is one of the major causes of various cardiovascular diseases. Smokers always have higher chances of suffering from heart attacks. Smoking can damage the lining of your arteries and reduce the capability of your blood cells to take up oxygen. This, in turn, increases your blood pressure level.

Reduce alcohol consumption: Alcohol can also affect your heart by increasing your blood pressure level. It can also cause damage to the muscles of your heart and lead to abnormal heart rhythms. You need not have to give up alcohol consumption completely. Stick to moderate alcohol drinking habits. This includes two to three units a day for women and 4 to 5 units a day for men.

These are some of the most common ways to keep your heart healthy. However, if you feel that you are still not feeling healthy and you need to get yourself medically treated, you must visit a doctor immediately.
